The copper bar applies nice even pressure across the tongue while slightly lifting it from the horses bars in addition the copper on the bar provides the horse with a sweet taste that helps promote extra salivation for a moister mouth, the chain gives them a little bit more feel so they can not grab a hold of it so much. Works well for a horse that tends to get over bridled but still needs control.
